"If you stick a knife in my back 9 in and pull it out 6 in, there's no progress. If you pull it all the way out, that's not progress. The progress is healing the wound that the blow made. They won’t even admit the knife is there" Malcolm X

Pleased to say I know this man No Place to Call Home is a story many second generation and first generation migrants can relate to. From Congo to the UK. This book reminds me of the sacrifices and strife our parents experienced for us to be here.

We are witnessing an abhorrent violation of international law & human rights in . 38 confirmed dead, including 6 children, with close to 2000 people injured. Many are reporting injuries to the head and chest. Over 500 injured with live ammunition. This must end immediately.

i’m sorry but if someone doesn’t ask for criticism and they’re just living their life and posting their photos and not bothering you in ANY WAY...... be nice or move along. not everything needs a response.

Exploiting violence against Black people is part of the problem that is anti-Blackness, not a rebellion against it.

a lot of women don’t like being fed excessive compliments. it’s awkward. so the fact that yall are shaming Rihanna over speaking on her discomfort for the sake of preserving Drake’s feelings is very misogynistic. a woman’s comfort > a man’s happiness.

In this story, among other things, I learned two lessons - 1) her and my grandpa were progressive for their generation in terms of marriage boundaries and gender roles. 2) Despite colonialism, African people in Cabo Verde lived their lives. The people’s stories must be told.

My grandmother was just telling me that her and my grandpa used to go to the night club as a married couple. When he was abroad for work she’d go with her best friend and the friend’s husband. She wouldn’t dance with anyone because that would be inappropriate.

Men want sons over daughters because its easier to pass down gender based bigotry and patriarchy than it is to raise a potential victim to their own ideas and behaviors.

This is amazing. Zora Neal Hurston's interview with Cudjo Lewis, the last survivor of a slave ship is finally published after decades of being abandoned in a vault. I love that she refused to rewrite it in "proper English" just so it would be published

In the Uber. Driver is playing 90s love songs. It's lightly raining outside. I feel like I'm in a movie and just broken up with long term partner, now moving to a new city to pursue my dreams and I don't know if I'm the right thing...

Voodoo is not evil. Neither is Juju, Obeah or Heka. Decolonizing our minds involves respecting, if not practicing the ways of our ancestors.

The colonial relationships of language makes for good humour. When I tell people I speak French, and they are fascinated, I saw it's b/c my people were colonised and just stare with a blank smile. I mean, it is the truth 🤷🏾‍♂️
